The Appleby Hub is run by The Right2Work CIC, http://www.right2work.org.uk which is part of The Oaklea Trust http://www.oakleatrust.co.uk . The former church is now a thriving community centre with a busy café & library area as well as rented studios and rooms for hire in the bustling market town of Appleby, which boasts a vibrant high street full of independent shops and cafes, there’s good road links – we are just off A66 and 20mins from M6 jct 40. Run by Hub Manager Sarah Jones it is home to a couple of artists – Steve Taylor has his studio in the café area where you can browse, buy and maybe catch him working, Rose Dinsdale is upstairs and offers Complementary Therapies, as well as offering rooms for hire which are well used by local groups.
When The Eden Workshop at Plumpton, Penrith closed, we offered Jane Farkins a job doing pretty much what she had been doing there, here. She jumped at the opportunity to come and work for us and even brought “The Eden Workshop” name as a brand, which we will continue to build on by offering quality workshops as well as drop in crafts, developing craft kits to sell, and with the help of Patrizia who oversees the Kitchen & Cafe some Foodie Workshops and much more. The monthly Hub Craft Fair will get a crafty fix, new stalls and Make & Take sessions are planned for February onwards. By coming to The Hub you are supporting The Oaklea Trust Charity with their work in local communities – such as The Edenside Project, round the corner.
Jane, stills aims to inspire & empower you to “have a go” at all those things you quite fancied doing, but never got round to! She finds the best tutors and invites them to share their skills, the workshops are small, generally max of 7 so they are informal thus offering plenty of opportunity to interact with each other & the tutor.
Along with the published list of Workshops that you can book onto we also offer private, bespoke ones just for you such as girly catch ups, birthday/crafty hen parties, team building/bonding – these can be arranged at a time to suit and with food to suit too – anything from a crafty couple of hours get together with friends (starting from £20) to a day’s bag making or two day basket weaving or upholstery workshop.
Refreshments & a tasty lunch cooked in our onsite café are included on the day courses (allergies & special dietary requirements catered for – please advise on booking) as are some, if not most of the materials. There is plenty of parking in the pay & display carpark adjacent to The Hub, the art studio & Bennett Room are accessed by a flight of stairs so please ask if you require any assistance, there is also a lift.
