All Craft workshops booked and craft items bought in our shop directly support Right2Work, part of The Oaklea Trust Charity with their valuable work in local communities. All our tutors are local to the area and are happy to share their knowledge with you throughout the day.

As our workshops provided by fabulous tutors are growing increasingly popular, and because we only take a max of 7 on most workshops for so there is plenty of space to work and adequate tutor time for each attendee, some do tend to fill up rather quickly – if there is one that you are interested in which is full please drop me a line – I can put you on a list should there be a last minute cancellation or if there are a few interested we may be able to squeeze in an extra workshop or tell you first when we get new dates.
We can arrange bespoke workshops or Crafternoons just for you, crafty hen parties are popular as are our Eventful Evenings – suited to visiting groups such as WI’s so please get intouch to discuss further.
MAKE A LAMPSHADE with Jane Farkins
Wednesday 6 October 11 – 2pm in The Bennett Room £35 includes refreshments, lampshade kit and light lunch.
Bring your own fabric to create a bespoke 25cm drum lampshade – if you have an old base bring it in and transform it using chalk paints (£5 extra cost). You can create a flourish and add feathers or just leave plain. We have a selection of vintage tweeds in the shop which are large enough to make a lampshade and coordinating applique cushion.
“PAINT” WITH WOOL – NEEDLEFELT HERDWICK RAM PORTRAIT with Jane Makes
Tuesday 12 October 10-2.30pm £59 incl all materials, refreshments and lunch.
Learn how to “paint with wool” using needlefelt techniques you will use real wool fibres to create your picture on a hessian background. Suitable for beginners and no drawing skill involved – it’s all there ready for you. The tools used will be yours to keep and Jane will share her love & knowledge of felting as the day progresses.
QUILTED PATCHWORK BOOK/DIARY COVER
Wednesday 13 October 10-4pm £65 incl all materials, refreshments & lunch
Learn a bit of patchwork, quilting and create a fab A5 book cover that can be removed and placed on a new diary/notebook – they also make fab presssies too. You will need your sewing machine for this on but all fabric and notebook/diary are included.
SOAP MAKING with Begin with Nature
Tuesday 19 October £55 incl all materials, refreshments and lunch
Join Sandra to learn how to make your own soaps and the role that essential oils can play in making up a soap to suit you. This is a technique workshop where you will learn how to safely make soaps at home, on the day you will create your own soap with natural ingredients using the essential oils for scent as well as vegetable and herb powders to colour and dried flowers and herbs for decoration. Everyone will make A 1lb block of soap will can be sliced and upto three mini soaps

Amanda Hunter is back with a informative workshop to make either a dangly pair of earrings or a pendant – you will design and depending on the complexity of your design there may be time to make a pair of stud earrings too. If you would like to set stones please advise prior to workshop and Amanda can advise.
LUNCH & CHRISTMAS FLORAL ART DEMO with David Ryland
Tuesday 2 November 12-4pm £35
David returns with many of our ladies from his spring demo who have booked again to see his Christmas Creations – you will be welcomed with a glass of fizz on arrival then take your seats for a scrumptious two course lunch and coffee before David takes to the stage. He will create approx five masterpieces whilst regaling you with humorous tales. After the Demo there will be a raffle for one of the arrangements then cream scones will be served and there will be a chance to browse the shop and take home David’s creations with a donation to Project Edenside in Appleby.
PORCELAIN CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS -with Gwen Bainbridge
Wednesday 3 November 10-1pm £59 incl all materials and lunch
Gwen returns to help you create some lasting keepsakes that can hang on your tree or choose a non christmas theme and they could hang off cupboard doors or a twig tree – depending on size you can expect to make upto three large decs. Gwen will take them away to be glazed and fired and they can be collected in a few weeks from us or her studio at Brougham Hall.
LINO PRINTING with Liz Jones

This one will have a Christmas spin – you can print your design onto some cards & wrapping paper – Liz, is part of EVAN a local artistic network, is a talented lino & screen printer based in the Eden Valley she regularly exhibits locally. On this workshop you will be given the size of block prior to attending so you can get together some ideas – maybe a rough sketch, a photo or picture. On the day you will have a practice carving using the various tools then you will transfer your image to a block, carve and print in a choice of colours using professional inks and the printers press. This workshop is ideal for total beginners and those wishing to hone their skills, you can expect to go home not only with your block to create more at home but also with a few prints that you can frame and keep or give as a unique handmade by you with love gift.

MAKE AN UPHOLSTERED STOOL with Liam from Lakes & Fells Workshop Retreats
Tuesday 9 & Wednesday 10 November 10-4pm £180 including refreshments, stool parts and lunches
Join Ministry of Upholstery trained Liam and learn how to create a stool from scratch – you will web the frame, add foam and a fire retardant protector then your fabric – choose to add some buttoning and choose your legs – footstool legs are included but if you want to upgrade to longer dressing table legs this is an extra £15. The legs can be finished in a variety of colours. The use of the tools are included these include compressed air staple guns as well as hand ones – suitable for beginners.
INTRODUCTION TO WEAVING – texture & colour with Jan Beadle
Saturday 13 November 10-4pm £65 incl all materials, refreshments and lunch.
Jan returns for her last workshop of the year where the looms are all warped up ready for you to experiment with pattern & colour & texture. Jan will demonstrate during the day and you will be free to experiment with Jan’s extensive yarn stash and pattern books. you can expect to weave a scarf length that can be used as a scarf, table runner or wall hanging.
FELT YOUR PET PORTRAIT with Jane Bardgett
Wednesday 17 November 10-4pm £75 incl refreshments, lunch and all materials
Jane does our Herdwick Portraits too, whilst the Herdwick is suitable for complete beginners this one requires you to have had experience of needlefelting before, ideal if you have done a herdwick with Jane. Bring in a photo of your pet and it will be transferred onto the fabric then you will start to add colour and texture under Jane’s expert tutition.
SILVER BANGLE with Amanda Hunter
Saturday 20 November 10-4pm £125 incl all silver and lunch
Amanda returns after our ring and earring making sessions to finish your collection with a bangle. you will design, measure, cut the sterling, saw any embellishments, emboss, stone set, solder, anneal, file and finish your bangle. If you wish to set a stone please bring with you on the day.
CHRISTMAS DOOR WREATH with Sarah Smith & Jane Farkins

Join Sarah & Jane for a festive wreath using fresh greenery, fruit, decorations and ribbon – you can choose an eco approach by tightly binding foliage onto the frame and building up depth and texture – this method allows the whole wreath to be place on the compost heap as it contains no wire – if you prefer to learn how to wire greenery and position onto the wreath you can do that – you will need to remove the wire before adding to the compost heap!!

CHRISTMAS NEEDLEFELTED GONK & BAUBLES with Jane Makes

Join us for a fun half day sessions learning how to make handmade needle felted gnomes. The session will be led by local Artist and Feltmaker Jane Bardgett who will guide you through each step, using 100% wool fibres and a felting needle, you will begin by create a cone shaped body followed by a hat, a nose (possibly more facial features it’s up to you!) and then that wonderful iconic gnome beard! Creating your own individual Gnome character to take home. They make wonderful handmade Christmas gift for friends & family.
Using the same technique on the afternoon session baubles will be made. You can expect to make three – but you can finish off at home.
By the end of your session, you will not only have learnt a new skill but have the confidence to make more at home if you wish. There is an opportunity to purchases additional materials or tools if you would like to do this.
